Part of the reason why Javier was not expecting to hear his name was because he had experienced a long list of disappointments, so he says he learned to never expect success. "Going into this show I learned to keep my expectations low and to not really have expectations at all," he said.
But all of that is history now! Javier has newfound fame, with teen star Justin Bieber being one of his many fans. Javier says he and Bieber have communicated via Twitter and the 17-year-old has shown his support on his Facebook page.
Of course, last night's show was the one-hour results show, and before we learned Javier was the winner we were treated to a few duets by the remaining four artists and some music veterans.
Vicci Martinez belted out "Drops of Jupiter" alongside Pat Monahan from Train. The song is about the death of Monahan's mother. It was perfect for Vicci since her father passed away a few years ago. After seeing both of them on stage really blending their voices well together and then hugging at the end I can't even listen to "Drops of Jupiter" anymore without hearing Vicci's voice.
Beverly McClellan rocked to "Good Life" with Ryan Tedder of One Republic. They both really showed raw emotion during the song. It was really nice to see two very different vocal styles on stage.
Dia Frampton did her duet with her mentor Blake Shelton's wife, Miranda Lambert. The two sang "The House that Built Me." It was such a soft and soothing song. And both harmonized very well together. And at times during their song both Miranda and Dia sounded like country legend Dolly Parton.
Javier sang his duet with rock icon Stevie Nicks. Together they did her signature song "Landslide." It was by far the best duet of the night. And I'm sure that performance caused millions of people to visit the show's website to watch it again and again.
After each performance each coach took a few moments to congratulate their artists on all of their hard work and to express their love for them. Cee Lo told Vicci, "I love you I love you so sincerely and umm and I'm so grateful for you and this opportunity...we will forever be bonded because of this experience...and I'll be there for you. You are a winner!"
Christina thanked Beverly but then turned to her fellow coaches and told the three men: "You know we really held each other's hands through this and I just want to thank you guys because you guys have felt like the big brothers I never had...I'm big fans of all you. I have much love and much respect." Awww.
But tears filled Blake's eyes as he talked to Dia about how she had grown throughout the season and how much he loved her. "You are family to me now...I love you and I'm so proud of you," he told her.
After those performances everyone couldn't wait to hear who the winner was. But before that, Carson said a couple of words while standing next to the four remaining artists. He told the audience that the voting was really close and that two of the artists were only two percentage points apart! Only two - can you believe that?
So Carson said he would reveal the two remaining artists first. Immediately Beverly and Vicci were dropped from the finalists list. That left Dia and Javier. Once Javier's name was announced the room went wild with confetti falling and fireworks erupting! It was truly a grand moment that felt right.
I couldn't imagine anyone else winning out of the four and apparently America agreed. He was long overdue. Finally Javier is the hottest commodity in Hollywood right now. Ryan Tedder, Cee Lo and Adam Levine all want to make music with him. Says iReporter Kathi Cordsen, "Javier stole my and clearly the American voters' hearts with his sweet voice and his humble ways."
An hour after the show was over I asked Javier if he felt his past was preparing him for this moment. Javier said: "Everything happens for a reason...and since the show came along everything has changed [for me]."
It certainly has, Javier.
